When you can no longer trust your gut

“When someone shows you who they are, believe them” -Mya Angelo

Did you know that intuition is a God-given spiritual gift? It’s also called discernment. It’s that gut feeling you have when you know in your knower that something isn’t right, or that it is.

I consider myself an intuitive person but when you battle insecurity as I do, and I know some of you do, you begin to doubt your intuition.

Have you ever been there? Most of the time you are good at reading people or situations, but your emotions get involved, and you become unsure of what you know. You stop trusting the very gift God gave you. Suddenly, your gut feelings that have guided you through life can no longer direct you.

I wish there were a magic formula to cure insecurity. I have even hoped for a magic pill that a doctor could give me to take those gross feelings away. But I have found that there is only one thing that works, and that is pure, raw, courage! The grit and determination that pushes through the ache. And good quotes from Mya Angelo.

Can you see why I love that quote? It resonates with me. When you begin to doubt yourself or what your gut feelings are telling you, human nature will take over, and people will show you who they are. Things will play out, and you will see the truth. The truth ALWAYS comes out.

I have learned that when I doubt my gut and my emotions take over, I have to apply the word of God. In Hebrews 4:12 The Bible says that His word is sharper than a two-edged sword. That tells me that the truth of the Bible cuts through emotion, hard moments, depths of hurt, good or bad intentions, and gives us the fact and a foundation to stand on. God will show you the truth when you can’t trust your own.

If you are struggling with security, courage, or confidence, you are not alone. Double down on what you are good at and what you know. For me, it is praying and talking with a trusted friend. For you, it might be the same, or it could be time alone, being still, getting silent and communicating with your creator. Maybe you need to have fun and get your mind off of it. Whatever you need to do, do it. Don’t give up! Be courageous and fight for your joy! You are worth it!

Hebrew 4:12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
